Bulldogs

Bulldogs are short and stocky dogs and have an appearance stability and strength. Bulldogs are short-legged and only stand about 12 to 16 inches tall at shoulder height and weigh from 45 to 55 pounds. Bulldogs have a waddling gait. Bulldogs are medium-sized dogs covered with smooth coat. Their skull should be large and broad. Bulldogs are known for their short muzzles and the saggy skin on their faces, creating the apparent "frown" that has become a trademark of the breed. Bulldogs come in a variety of colors and ideally have a smooth, short coat. They are noted for their wrinkly round faces. Their snouts are short and pug and their noses are broad with large nostrils. They are average shedders.

American Bulldog The American Kennel Club breed standard suggests that the ideal Bulldog temperament is outgoing, but friendly, calm and non-aggressive. Bulldogs are perpetual children: they never grow up. A Bulldog does best in a loving environment, free from fear and neglect. Bulldogs are not really a demanding breed or time-consuming breed, but when left alone for longer periods of time they get bored and may then become very destructive as a result. They really need the physical and mental stimulation you can give them while spending time with them.

Bulldogs are gifted at making friends - even with horses and other animals. They are the "clowns" of the canine world. Bulldogs are very much a people’s dog seeking out human attention and loving every bit it can get!! A lot of human attention is required for the breed's happiness. A foundation of basic dog obedience training will go a long, long way. Dynamism, persistence and energy are the characteristics of a Bulldog. They are big and powerful chewers so they need durable toys. Don't leave small objects on the floor as they will eat anything it finds.

Bulldogs are extremely sensitive to heat and great care should be given to the dog during overly warm periods. During these times, ensure the dog has plenty of shade, water and should be ideally kept out of standing heat. Bulldogs are also prone to dry eye, where the tear ducts do not produce enough tears. The removal of a cherry eye may result in dry eye, or it may develop on its own.

English Bulldog Bulldogs are particularly susceptible. A veterinarian should be consulted to obtain proper medication to treat and bathe the dog as early as possible. Bulldogs need regular grooming because these wrinkles need to be cleaned daily. Bulldogs are in the top five dogs with skin irritations, causing expensive vet bills. Bulldogs are not good smelling pets. They tend to snore and breath very heavily making this something that you will need to get use to.

Bulldogs are not aggressive dogs, they are not 'performance' dogs, they are above all else 'characters'. Bulldogs are rather slow-moving companions who are prone to quick and short bursts of energy. However, this does not mean that they should not exercise. Bulldogs are relatively inactive, requiring only a daily walk around the block for exercise.

American Bulldogs

The American Bulldog retains some of the same characteristics, particularly the strong jaw and equally strong personality. Though American Bulldogs are known as fierce protectors of their properties and masters (making them excellent guard and watch dogs), they are very gentle and good with both children and other family pets. They are active, loyal dogs who really love their families, and are a joy to work and play with. They have comical personalities and an inquisitive nature, and once you have one, you'll see why so many folks love this breed!

From an early age the dog needs a lot of training and requires much attention. American Bulldogs make excellent family pets if socialized properly and obedience trained. Professional assistance with training is highly recommended. American Bulldogs range in size from 65 pounds to 135 pounds. They are short haired, heavy boned and muscular. American Bulldogs have short, coarse coats that can come in combinations of solid white colors and combinations of white with patches of red, tan, brindle and fawn. American Bulldogs are a very capable breed. They can and often do excel in many activities such as farm work, showing, personal protection, weight pulling or simply a loving family pet.

English Bulldogs

English Bulldogs seem to know that the sad, pouted face and the carefully-placed sigh can get them most anything. English Bulldogs truly have a human-like quality, and their feelings are easily hurt. They were bred as working dogs that helped herd cattle. English Bulldogs are so loving they would make a wonderful companion to anyone who is looking for unconditional love. They adore children and make an excellent companion to them because of their gentle, yet sometimes stubborn nature.

French Bulldogs

French Bulldog French bulldogs are good watchdogs, and they are a friendly breed. They make friends quite easily and are happy to wag their short tails at strangers. French bulldogs have unique, upright ""bat"" ears. They are genial dogs, with a happy look about them. French bulldogs are house dogs and their niche in life is to be an adored pet. He is happy and playful, loves children but is equally content to live with a single special person. French Bulldogs are family dogs but they do better with older children and they act as like hunters when they see mice or other small animal.

They don’t require much exercise and should not exercise outdoors in hot weather, as they can suffer from heat exhaustion. They can be sufficiently exercised with indoor games and occasional walks outside in mild weather. Frenchies have a short, smooth, shiny and dense coat. Coat colors can be roan but are usually fawn and white with streaked patches or tiger markings. French Bulldogs may look tough on the outside, but inside they are lovably soft, caring and easygoing.

Bulldogs require a lot more attention than most breeds. They look very cute and therefore are easily bought on impulse. Bulldogs are generally kind and amiable, slightly stubborn but also courageous. They are not vicious or aggressive, and the generally carry themselves with a dignified and passive demeanor. And, as always, a well trained bulldog is a happy bulldog.
