Boxer Dog Obedience Training


Boxer dogs are medium-large dogs, around 50-75 pounds and 21-25 inches tall. Their bodies are very lean and muscular, with taut skin and a short coat. Boxers are in the working dog category. Boxers are typically either fawn or brindle, often with a white underbelly and white on the front or all four feet. These white markings, called flash, often extend onto the neck or face. Boxers are strong, compact, and agile, with broad powerful jaws and a small nose which enables it to breathe while hanging onto an animal. Boxers have docked tails and may have cropped ears.

Boxers are considered intelligent and clever. It is important to remember that an intelligent dog can devise many ways of getting into trouble. Boxers are fond of jumping up at people. This is their natural manner of playing, but it is best to control this behavior from early age, because such behavior can be fraught with traumas for children. Boxers are avid runners and love to kick up their heels when in play.

Boxers are among the more than 35 breeds of dogs on record to be at risk for developing hereditary sensorineural deafness. The condition cannot be reversed with medications, surgery or hearing aids. Boxers are also prone to hip dysplasia, an abnormal ball and socket condition located in the hip joint. Finally, boxers sometimes develop hypothyroidism, which is a condition that causes its body metabolism to slow down.

The Boxer is sensitive to both hot and cold weather. So it's best to divide their time between house and yard. Boxers are people dogs and love to be social inside with their families. But they are also active and love to play, by which they need space and/or good runs or long walks. Boxers are not the right dog for everyone. They do drool, many snore, and all shed. Boxers are a very loving breed of dog that makes great family pets! Boxers are great with kids and they can be intimidating as well. They are an exceptional family dog with a high degree of loyalty and love for all members of their family. In addition to this loyalty and love there is laughter.
